Cardiff is where i’ve learned most of what i know about taking pictures. i ended up in Wales by chance - i had not factored in the local culture or whether i’d like the city when i chose where i’d do my studies. but it grew on me.

those years were all about trial and error. about moving beyond “taking pretty pictures”, and discovering whether i wanted to be a cameraperson. there were plenty of growing pains - though i knew the city and its surroundings well, i missed quite a few opportunities. there were numerous topics to “speak” about in Cardiff, yet i was too green to approach them sensibly. once i moved away, i realised just how much i had missed out on. but without all this, i would not be here, still pressing the shutter button.

anyone is likely to notice that there is quite a bit of variation in quality between these pictures and it makes perfect sense - they were taken at very different moments in my development. there are many other photos i haven’t added… their quality is questionable at best.

but above everything else, the trouble with legacy photographs (especially in large numbers) is that whatever logic i applied when i first took them, that is no longer available to me. as i go through the archives, all i see is loose ends. this, along with various other reasons, have made this into a project which i am bound to leave unfinished.
