Pop Cola Classic
• Introduction: boy oh boy, another Coke spin off - every time I deal with one of these I ask myself the exact same question: what makes these people think they’ll make a product which is better or sufficiently different from Coca Cola? Guess we are about to find out PopCola’s answer.
• Taste profile: nothing unusual from the get go - a distinctive smell of caramel, typical to so many Coke clones. The taste is familiar, but in all fairness, the ginger gives a very interesting direction, as it is also obvious in the aftertaste. I assume that the flavour which makes this a Cola is the kola nut, but I am pleased to say that not much else is straight up copied from Coca Cola. Though this is the “full fat”, “full sugar” version of PopCola, the drink is unexpectedly light and won’t stick to your mouth like Coca Cola. It’s definitely lighter, with more space for the flavours to come to the fore individually. I could definitely see this as refreshing, especially if served chilled. I’d have this on the rocks.
• Rating: 7.5/10. It’s a good one and I can recommend it. The appreciation is of course subjective and my lack of interest in Colas is reflected in the grade, but Id be happy to suggest this to anyone looking for a real alternative to Coca Cola.
